Community Outreach Program
MVI’s Community Outreach Team understands that CDCs face a wide variety of challenges in their efforts to revitalize their communities, and we work with the CDCs to develop strategies to make the most of their resources. An often overlooked aspect of community development work is the fact that building and maintaining a strong and effective Community Development Corporation is no easy task. Members of the CDCs donate a considerable amount of their own time and effort for the betterment of the community, and many times, CDC members don’t have much time or energy left to address the long-term health of their own organization.
The Community Outreach Team works closely with the MVI Board of Delegates to identify member CDCs that would benefit from a concentrated effort by MVI’s Community Organizer to team up with the leadership of the CDC to develop a plan to build the overall strength of their CDC. Any effective organization that plans to be around for the long haul needs to spend focused time on the growth and stability of their organization. MVI’s Community Outreach team exists to assist CDCs with this important, but often overlooked effort.
In addition to our role in assisting CDC volunteers in building effective, democratic organizations and making solid connections with the communities they serve, the Community Outreach Team also serves as the communications and public information hub of the MVI network and as the organizers for MVI’s “special events.” These events include a spring conference for all of our CDC members, an annual golf outing, (which serves as a fundraiser for our member CDCs) and MVI’s Annual Dinner and Community Awards.
